Condura Skyway Marathon 2011

Kicks off the running fever next year when it’s fired off [on] February 6 with a new look, new concept, and a new category added to spice up action in the event tipped to draw a record field. The upcoming event has been rebranded from Condura Run to Condura Skyway Marathon and is positioned as the premiere marathon event in the Asia-Pacific Region by 2012.

With rebranding comes a lot of improvements that will benefit our runners,” said Condura Skyway Marathon founder and chief event officer Ton Concepcion. “We will be utilizing the D-Tag timing system used in the New York City Marathon.”

There’ll be two starting lines on Ayala Avenue [Makati] and at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) with the finish line at BGC. Runners will be provided with a special edition dri-fit technical T-shirts. A 10-miler or 16K event intended for runners who can easily do a 10K run but are not yet confident of completing their first half marathon will also be introduced next year. And, for the first time, the 10K and 16K runners, along with those competing in the half marathon will get a taste of running the Skyway through a point-to-point course. With the extension of the Skyway, the full marathon runners will now be able to run from BGC to Sucat and back. Other categories are the 3K and 5K inside BGC.

The event drew 8,500 participants, a big jump from a previous 6,279 cast in 2009. In 2008, it lured just around 2,000. For 2011, total expected runners are pegged at 12,000.
