Let There Be Light: Isang Litrong Liwanag Green Revolution

Light is a symbol of …
rebirth
freedom from ignorance
positive affirmation
hope
truth
enlightenment
clear thinking
opportunity
new things
teachings
cleansing
Divine power
clearing up of things
innovation
idea
… and the list goes on.
Let there be light is an English translation from a phrase written in Hebrew language. It is a verse taken from the Book of Genesis.
Three months ago, I received an invitation for the launching of A Thousand Points of Light, a campaign of the Isang Litrong Liwanag (A Liter of Light) Project of MyShelter Foundation which aims to bring sustainable and green lighting technology to 1,000 homes in Payatas.   But for some reason I was unable to attend.
What started out as a small project has gone into a viral campaign and has spread across the globe-from Asia to South America.
The Isang Litrong Liwanag aims to set a world record on November 30 by lighting up 10,000 homes from 30 communities in 17 cities in one day. It may sound impossible, but there’s no letting up in its campaign.  To top it off, Isang Litrong Liwanag has launched its much improved Web site and released a music video performed by local rock artists.

It is a song that portrays the basic realities of a typical Filipino family, from darkness to light, metaphorically speaking.   To kick off this Green Revolution, two running events are slated to happen in Cagayan De Oro (HalloweenFun Run) and Manila (Adobo Run After Dark).  So if you’re joining any of this runs, you’re already helping out families who don’t have access to electricity.
MyShelter Foundation Executive Director Illac Diaz believes that with the use of simple technology coupled with ingenuity and groundbreaking efforts, it’s the Filipino’s story that should come out and be known to the world.  Isang Litrong Liwanag lights not only Filipino lives but also of the world.  Truly Filipino Green Revolution has come!
