Gran Fondo New York (GFNY) Philippines to host GFNY Asian Championship

The second edition of GFNY Philippines is set to be a contested race among Asia’s elite and international riders to see who will be crowned GFNY Asia Champion

The world’s largest Cycling Marathon Brand GFNY features a total of 18 GFNY World races in the 2019-2020 calendar seasons. They include the GFNY World Championship in NYC and five regional championships in Asia, Europe, North America, South America and the Middle East – Africa.

This is the first time GFNY Philippines to host the Asian Championship happening in Iloilo on September 22. With the support of Megaworld, Opus Land, LA Course Velo, Trygon among others, the event is set to offer a world-class experience to nearly 1000 cyclists from across the Philippines and 15 nations. The competitive long-distance course covers 133 KM and 650 m climbing. The non-competitive middle-distance course covers 64 KM with 220 m climbing. Courtyard by Marriott Iloilo and the Richmonde Hotel Iloilo are the official host hotels. The prerace expo and registration will be held in the atrium of the Festive Walk Mall.

At GFNY Philippines, riders can expect: 

  • closed roads or police moderated traffic with right of way at all intersections 
  • the chance to do their best on a challenging course without having to worry about anything, but riding 
  • chip timing, results, and rankings based on the full start-to-finish course 
  • the chance to start in the Qualifier Corral at all GFNY World races
  • competition prizes across all age groups for podium winners 
  • uniform set of rules 
  • great cycling experience 
  • an event organized by fellow cyclists who love bikes and GFNY 

The overall male and female winners in the competitive long distance will be awarded flight, hotel, and entry to the GFNY NYC World Championship next 17 May 2020.

20% of finishers in each age group in the long route will be earning a coveted start seeding in the GFNY Qualifier Corral for 380 days, including at the 2020 Campagnolo GFNY World Championship in NYC on May 17.

Campagnolo GFNY World Championship NYC

The 10th annual Campagnolo GFNY World Championship New York will be held on May 17, 2020. The race features the world’s most international peloton with riders from over 90 countries. Athletes take on a challenging 100-mile route from NYC to Bear Mountain to Fort Lee to compete against each other, the clock, and themselves in a personal endurance challenge.

Climbing Skills

Science of the cycling stroke, saddle position, inclines and declines, braking moving from hoods to drops, climbing off the saddle, ride nutrition and tips on vital minerals such as sodium and potassium.  Intermediate must be able to ride 60-80 KMs.

Bike Maintenance

Ride out, racing and transport bike rack or bag.
