VIP Special Movie Screening of the Movie YOU’RE NOT YOU

I, together with fellow runner bloggers Que of Life of Que, Bards of Banana Running, Vimz of Kulit Runner, Rod of Rod Runner, and Art of the Singing Daddy, was glad to have attended the special movie screening of You’re Not You on November 18 at SM Megamall Cinema 6. You’re Not You is a moving drama about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or commonly known as ALS.   Two-time Academy Award winner Hillary Swank stars in movie.

A few months back, the social media was abuzzed with the ALS ice bucket challenge  done not only by  Hollywood celebrities and local stars but also by ordinary people to literally support, and fund research the condition also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Lou Gehrig is an American baseball player who was diagnosed with this condition.  ALS affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.  People who have this condition degenerate as movements are slowly affected, which may later result in total paralysis.  They lose control over the use of their muscles, unable to speak, walk, or even feed themselves.

In the movie You’re Not You, Oscar Award winner Hillary Swank, takes on the role of an ALS patient named Kate, a suave, successful classical pianist.  She and her husband Evan (Josh Duhamel) are crushed when they find out about her condition, and together, searched for someone to take care of Kate as the condition progresses.

Bec (Emily Rossum), a brash college student and would-be singer, who can barely keep her own life together, takes on the job.   Evan is hesitant to get her, but Kate sees something special in the younger girl.

You’re Not You explores how two strangers can bring out the best in each other in the midst of trials and tribulations.  This movie also gives face to the much-talked about ALS, and helps people understand the condition better.

The movie is distributed and released in the Philippines by Octoarts Films International and will be shown in theaters on November 26, 2014.

Thank you Marcie Linao of Love and Light Productions for having me in the special movie screening event.  Till next time!
